Embodying Ailyak: The Subtle Art of Doing Things Slowly

Ailyak. Bulgarian. Ailyak roughly translates to a state of mind without pressure or worry. It is an art of enjoying life while doing things calmly, without the need to rush or overwork.

Ailyak, what a beautiful Bulgarian word and concept. A subtle reminder to let go of the need to race from one task to another, and instead slow down and let yourself simply and peacefully enjoy the moments of life.

Ailyak can be embodied and embraced anytime, anywhere.

Walking through city streets. Taking in the architecture. Noticing the people you pass. The expressions on faces. The loud and soft sounds you hear.

Moving through nature. Feeling the wind on your face. Listening to the sound of the ground beneath your feet. Getting lost in the awe of what surrounds you.

Sitting at a table with friends. Soaking up the laughter. Letting go of the pressures of the day. Being at ease and present with each other.

In this moment, let's embody Ailyak through mindful meditation. Take each of these steps with ease and care, gently - one at a time.

Ayliak Meditation by Julie Skon

Slow your breathing.

Let go of the need to rush.

Calm your movements.

Enliven your senses.

See with intention what is around you.

Listen closely to the sounds.

Feel the sensations upon and within your body.

Take time to connect to your true essence.

Allow yourself to enjoy the feeling of just being exactly where you are.

As you move through your day carry the art of ailyak with you.

Let it to be a reminder to slow down.

To take in what is around you.

And to simply relish being in the wild dance and flow of life.
