If you're up for a year of Transformation, it's time to join the 1000 Mindful Miles Challenge
The New Year is upon us, and typically with a New Year comes goal-setting and resolution-making, along with that feeling of a fresh start. However, according to research, only around 9% of people actually manage to keep their resolutions throughout the year, 23% of people quit within the first week, and 43% by the end of January.
But why is this? Why is it so hard to set and goal and stick to it? There are many reasons. First, we often set unrealistic goals that are not enjoyable, and we create a mindset that is negative around the goal. "I can't have that", "Ugh..now, I have to do that". Sound familiar at all? We also set vague goals, that are unmeasurable, so there is no way to quantify the wins. And, we also often go after goals solo. Which also means, there is no support along the road of achievement.
As a life and healing coach, it is my focus and mission to help people set important life-changing goals and to actually achieve them (and more). Throughout my personal life and career I get a front row seat to seeing what gets in the way of us not achieving what we really truly desire to experience and create in our lives. And let me tell you, to achieve your goals and dreams, wether that is for optimal health and wellness, to advance in your career, to navigate through a difficult time, to find happiness, or anything at all - there has to be a lot of mindful touch points along your journey to reach the success of actualizing your goals.
I have created a corporate workshop and group coaching series called O.W.N. I.T. around each of these important elements, but I am also going to share them with you here, because I want you to have the power and the tools to create transformation for yourself, in any and all areas of life that you choose. I am also embarking on a 1000 MIndful Miles Challenge in 2025 that I hope you will join me on, that incorporates all of these touch points, but more on that later.
If you want to create a New Year resolution or goal and achieve it, here are the 5 steps to O.W.N. I.T.:
- Optimize it. What area of your life do you most want to optimize right now? Health? Relationships? Career? Finances? Home life? A project you want to complete? Choose your optimization, and then get specific. What do you actually want to create and achieve in this area of your life?
- Find your Why and Wear it on your Sleeve. How will optimizing this part of your life make you feel? Tap into the emotions this will bring you. When you achieve this goal, will it bring your happiness, a sense of calm, peace, security, creative? Make sure the emotion that it brings you is a positive one. While the journey will bring a range of emotions, the result will be one that feels so good to you. Find this emotion and carry it with you. This aligns your amygdala with your goal achievement, which helps you along the path.
- Navigate the Nonsense. This is the part of the goal achieving process where most people quit. The nonsense is the self-limiting beliefs, the negative self-talk, the habitual patterns that often surface when we are creating change and that makes us step on our own feet and fall off the dream-making bandwagon. But, the good news is that the nonsense lives in the subconscious (typically caused by past hurt, disappointments, and trauma). But, when you learn to consciously catch the thoughts and the patterns, you have within you to consciously override the nonsense. And in comes the tool to get there, in the next step.
- I am with Interoception. Interoception is known as the 8th sense and more and more studies are showing what an integral role it plays in our deepest somatic connection, the language between our minds and our bodies. When nonsense comes to the surface as you move towards your goals, pause and check in with your mind and body. Listen to your thoughts, and reframe and rephrase each unsupportive thought with a powerful and supportive "I AM" statement. Then, check in with your body. What are you feeling and where? Give it a name and allow your body to express what it is feeling. For example, "I AM feeling a tightness in my chest because I AM frustrated. Because of this, I AM going to take a break, get outside, and take deep breaths, and I AM going to remind myself that I AM creating change and growth and with that comes challenges that I AM powerfully taking on."
- Triumph with Team. Research shows that by having an accountability partner, or partners, you have a 95% chance of achieving your goal. Find your person, or hire a coach, to share your wins with and to help navigate the walls.
And now onto the 1000 Mindful Miles in 1 Year Challenge that I want to invite you to join me on.
